Building an extension for my mother-in-law

I love my mother-in-law but I never planned on living with her permanently. I have been enjoying her living with us now that we have kids but I feel like we all need some extra space so I am getting a granny flat built at the back of our block. This should allow us to have some extra space to make sure everyone has the privacy that they need whilst we can still be a family. This block has some tip on the process of building a granny flat including how to choose a contractor and how to get the council approval for the build.

Top Benefits of Frameless Glass Shower Screens

by Chloe Cooper

According to statistics, the home renovation segment grew by 2.2% in 2017. One area that witnessed the most renovation was the bathroom. In as much as it is private space, that hasn't stopped homeowners from making the bathroom as comfortable and aesthetically appealing as possible. Not only does a clean, elegant bathroom help you to relax after a long day, but it also improves the value of your house significantly. One way you can upgrade your bathroom is by installing frameless glass shower screens. Notably, the design is best suited for a contemporary bathroom. If you still have your doubts, this article highlights some of the benefits you stand to gain with frameless glass shower screens. Read on.

Easy Simple Wipe Downs -- Frameless glass shower screens are arguably the easiest shower screens to maintain. Unlike plastic shower screens which you must regularly wash to ensure mould doesn't grow on the surface, frameless glass screens simply require a wipe down. It is made possible by the lack of a frame or edges with awkward angles that make cleaning a challenging task. The design ensures you have access to the entire glass panel for a quick wipe down with a cleaner and a piece of cloth. However, you have to pay particular attention to the hinges since they have spaces where dirt can go unseen. Clean the hinges regularly and replace any that begin to show signs of wear.

Durable-Tempered Glass -- On the face of it, glass might not seem like the strongest of materials. However, the truth is that glass shower screens are made of tempered glass. This means the glass screens can withstand a certain level of impact suitable for bathroom use. In fact, the lack of a frame in frameless glass shower screens means that they are even more robust than framed glass screens. It is for this reason that you find frameless shower screens feel a bit heavier than their framed counterparts. Additionally, frameless glass shower screens are designed to resist scratches given the busy bathroom environment in an average-sized family. When maintained the right way, flameless glass shower screens can last for years.

Maximise Space -- In addition to improving the aesthetics, frameless glass screens maximise the amount of space in a bathroom. For instance, you can install a shower screen that runs from the ceiling to the floor without worrying about blocking the light along the edges. The seamless design allows light to pass through unhindered, thereby creating a clean look. It is especially the case for small bathrooms where the owners have to use every inch of space carefully. If you have a small bathroom, then the frameless design will help you to make the room spacious and airy.
