Building an extension for my mother-in-law

I love my mother-in-law but I never planned on living with her permanently. I have been enjoying her living with us now that we have kids but I feel like we all need some extra space so I am getting a granny flat built at the back of our block. This should allow us to have some extra space to make sure everyone has the privacy that they need whilst we can still be a family. This block has some tip on the process of building a granny flat including how to choose a contractor and how to get the council approval for the build.

Building A New Home? Why Choose Adjustable Steel Stumps

by Chloe Cooper

If you're building your own home, and it's time to choose the stumping, don't settle on wood or concrete. Instead, talk to your contractor about choosing adjustable steel stumps for your new home. If you're like many homeowners, you might think that wood or concrete are the best options for residential stumps, but that's not necessarily the case. In fact, steel stumps have become one of the best options for residential stumps, especially when you consider all of the benefits. If you're still not sure what type of material to choose for your residential stumps, read the list provided below. You'll find four benefits you'll receive when you have adjustable steel stumps installed under your new home.

Versatility

When it comes to selecting stumps for your new home, you need to go with a material that ensures better versatility. One of the great things about steel stumps is that they work well for all types of homes; regardless of size, style, or design.

Durability

If you're in the process of choosing the right stump material for your new home, it's time to think about durability. You might not realise this, but stump durability is important for a couple of reasons. If the stumps will be exposed, you need to worry about pest damage. Wood stumps can be chewed through, which can be a real problem for exposed stumps. If you plan to use the space for extra living space or storage space, you need to worry about impact damage. Adjustable steel stumps provide you with the strength and durability you need for your new home.

Protection

Concrete and wood stumps work well, but there can be problems where the environment is concerned. This is especially true where moisture exposure is concerned. You might not know this, but moisture exposure can cause serious problems for wood and concrete stumps. First, moisture exposure can cause wood rot. Second, moisture exposure can cause concrete deterioration. However, adjustable steel stumps are made from galvanized steel, which makes them impervious to moisture damage, including corrosion.

Adjustments

Finally, if your home will be built on stumps, you need to consider future adjustments. Over time, your home may settle. When that happens, you'll need to have the stumps adjusted. That's where adjustable steel stumps come in handy. Adjustable steel stumps can be easily adjusted to accommodate the changes.

Don't take chances with the stability of your new home. Talk to your contractor about the benefits of choosing adjustable steel stumps
