Building an extension for my mother-in-law

I love my mother-in-law but I never planned on living with her permanently. I have been enjoying her living with us now that we have kids but I feel like we all need some extra space so I am getting a granny flat built at the back of our block. This should allow us to have some extra space to make sure everyone has the privacy that they need whilst we can still be a family. This block has some tip on the process of building a granny flat including how to choose a contractor and how to get the council approval for the build.

Bring Your Home into the 21st Century With These Three Upgrades

by Chloe Cooper

One of the many benefits of living in Australia is the fact that it has high-quality amenities and services. Whenever there is a new technological breakthrough you can be sure that Australia will be at the forefront of implementing it at a consumer level. As the century enters its 19th year, there are several gadgets that everyone simply must have to bring their homes up to speed with technology. All of these technological improvements aim at making home life easier, more comfortable and as efficient as possible, and all three are must-haves if you want to maximise the potential of 21st-century technology.

Automatic Garage Door

While the idea of automatically opening garage doors has been around for a few decades now, in reality they are just hitting their strides as useful appliances now. Many Australians have their garage connected to their house, which means that upon coming home from work all one needs to do is press a button and you can exit your car straight into the warmth of your home. If you have an earlier model automatic door, now is the perfect time to upgrade to the smoother, more responsive automatic doors. The biggest thing to remember is that your garage door must be serviced every 6 or so months to ensure it remains a well-oiled machine. It is better to simply have your garage door serviced every so often so that you never have problems with it breaking down when you are actually using it. Call a professional garage door service for help with any necessary maintenance.

Virtual Assistant

Virtual assistants are becoming more and more popular as new accessories are being made to be compatible with them. Every major technology company now offers some version of a virtual assistant, but the most popular would be Alexa, Cortana and Siri.  With a virtual assistant, you can control anything from your lights to your television and even some high-end kitchen appliances like your fridge. The best thing about using a virtual assistant is the knowledge that, over time, more and more items will become compatible with it, and eventually your home will resemble what used to be thought of as pure science fiction.

Home Security

In addition to your strong garage door, you need to ensure that the rest of your home is protected by the latest technology. Devices like CCTV cameras are now very accessible for every household and often come with a monitoring system, so you can check the outside of your home from your phone or computer. Modern CCTV systems also come with motion detection sensors, and you can link them to a security company that will alert police if there are intruders on your property. Don't risk your modern home with old technology; get yourself a new security system and ensure that you are protected from any would-be intruders.
